Rising demand for our products in the Industrial Cranes segment was reflected in order intake, which grew from EUR 397.9 million in the previous year to EUR 412.2 million, an increase of 3.6 percent. Order intake climbed steadily from quarter to quarter, with the largest number of orders received in the fourth quarter. In addition to continuous demand for components, orders for our Process and Standard Cranes also began to increase from the third quarter. In line with the economic recovery and highly positive order development in the mechanical engineering industry, our customers are also beginning to carry out more capital expenditure projects again. The Industrial Cranes segment order book came to EUR 180.0 million as at 30 September 2010 (30 September 2009: EUR 197.7 million).
The number of orders also increased in the Port Technology segment in the financial year under review. Order intake rose by 29.7 percent compared with the previous year from EUR 151.8 million to EUR 197.0 million. Here too, the largest number of orders was generated in the fourth quarter. Order intake was driven by increased demand for Mobile Harbour Cranes and services.
The Port Technology segment order book came to EUR 76.9 million as at 30 September 2010 (30 September 2009: EUR 69.4 million). The decline in the order book as at 30 June was due to Mobile Harbour Cranes which were delivered to customers in the third quarter, but could not be billed until after customer acceptance, i.e. in the fourth quarter.
In the Services segment, order intake rose by 3.2 percent from EUR 292.1 million in financial year 2008/2009 to EUR 301.5 million in financial year 2009/2010. The increased use of crane systems pushed up demand for our services. The order book stood at EUR 49.6 million as at 30 September 2010, after EUR 46.0 million in the previous year.
